But Everyone is Doing IT

But everyone is Doing IT
(no pun intended on the scary movie, which I have not or will see ugh :)

(here is a photo of me two years ago  trying to redeem the "holiday" by being a Warrior Princess for God)

So..as a Christian should I celebrate Halloween?

Like everything else in society if "everyone is doing it" and you chose not to participate you feel left out. This includes playing sports, dating, drinking, wearing certain clothes, smoking, having sex, going to certain parties, etc the list can go on...

I have done most of the above because of peer pressure. To get real personal even feeling so left out being a 16-year-old virgin. The foolery right? The matter of fact is as humans we like to feel apart of something to the point that we follow others even when we have no idea where it will take us.

"following the crowd"

We have all done it at some point in our lives, even as adults. Highschool did not end at 18. Can you think of one thing?

Going back to the main question... As a Christian should I celebrate Halloween aka "hallowed evening" You can honestly insert most things in substitute for Halloween... As a Christian should I have premarital sex- get drunk- smoke - go to certain parties...? etc Again GUILTY here.

All things have become the norm. Including the celebration of Halloween. The thing is I had no idea what Halloween was been born in the Dominican Republic. Even after moving to the USA at 9 it wasn't a thing for my family until I went into middle school and I wanted to "fit in". Without even knowing what in the world I was celebrating.. I partook in it.

I dislike scary movies, yep you can call me a big baby if you want. I am protecting my pretty brown eyes from images and ideas I shouldn't have in my head.

Halloween brings all these images out without me having a choice to view or not. I literally have driven past a home decked out with those things every morning to get to work... but it's "just for fun" they say.. hanging skulls, witches, coffins, bloodstains, walking dead, etc.. yikes chills but okay because it's "just for fun".

Do you know where the origins of this "holiday" came from? Google can help but in long story short;  It's a celebration of the dead. A day where the 'otherworlds' gates were open. People dressed up and carved pumpkins for protection so the 'spirits' wouldn't recognize them, therefore, scare them away. There's so much more to it...  but to this day its a day were people have rituals for witchcraft to communicate with the passed amongst other disgusting things.

Side Note: modern-day trick-or-treating didn't catch on in the US until the 1920s

Treat or Trick? It seems harmless I know. Especially if you don't take part in the original context of the 'holiday'. But in doing so we open the gates to excusing other things, take for example; premarital sex, "I love him so it's okay God will understand".. guilty that used to be me... this creates soul ties (another blog) especially when God did not call you to that relationship. Can you think of other examples?

God calls us to be Holy and to stand for truth and that's for everything. I am still fighting certain 'battles" in my Christian walk but the more we are aware of the culture we partake in the closer to God we can become in been Holy with Him...

So, in conclusion, I will not be partaking in the celebrations of this day... even tho it feels like I am the odd sheep but it's okay because God calls us to stand out! Like I tell my boys... " You can't stand out if you are trying to fit in."

So how can we redeem this day that was meant for bad?
Simple, by spreading truth not only on the day of but every day & spreading Jesus's eternal love for us <3

Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong.  Exodus 23:2
Wrong; unjust, dishonest, or immoral, in an unsuitable or undesirable manner or direction, misrepresent...

At the end of the day, It's about choosing Godly things to entertain &
it could all change with just one day!

So what's so Happy (about) Halloween?
